Skip Kent

Skips vary is size and types in accordance to the type and amount of waste they will contain. In general there are open-top skips used for general waste and covered-top skips suitable for dangerous waste. Skips are most commonly used for construction waste as well as various cleaning-out jobs.

The main factor taken into account when choosing a skip is its size. The smallest skips provide around one and a half cubic meters or 2 cubic yards waste space and are usually hired for small domestic purposes such as garden cleaning. Skips that provide three cubic meters waste volume, also known as 4 cubic yard skips, (1x1 meters in size) are ideal for small home renovation jobs such as bathroom or kitchen refurbishment. Large skip sizes range from 6 to 10 cubic meters (6 to 12 cubic yards) and are usually used for large house renovation projects, bu8ilding construction waste or other heavy waste types.

The price of a skip hire largely varies and is calculated according several factors:

1. Size. The size of the skip hire influences its cost. While prices vary among different companies, you can expect to pay a minimum of £60 for a 2 cubic yard skip, £80 for 4 cubic yard skip and not less than £100 for 6 to 8 cubic yard skips. The prices of a larger skip hire - above 12 cubic yards, are usually given upon application and start from £250.

2. How long you will be using the skip. Most skip hire companies have strict requirements regarding the renting period. Some will charge you extra for any extra time you are using the skip, other may give you a discount if you return the skip earlier.

3. The type of waste. Skips used for general waste tend to be cheaper than skips for hazardous waste. When you hire a skip you must let the company know what kind of litter you will be disposing and than you will get a quotation for the price.

4. Permits. In almost all UK councils a permit is required when you will be placing a skip outside of your property. The fees vary according location and local authority regulations.

You will need to take all of these into account when planning to hire a skip. The best way to proceed is to contact several skip hire companies and ask for quotation. This way you will be able to select the offer that best matches your needs and budget.
